Simple Natural Weight Loss Tip #25

My next simple natural weight loss tip is: Change your focus.

It’s easy when you are dieting to become obsessed with what you are eating, and how many calories in every food, and ow much fat it contains. I am going to suggest that you stop focusing on those things.

Stop focusing on losing weight or having a smaller waist, or fitting into a smaller dress size. Think instead about becoming healthier every day.

If you are focused on becoming healthier, and make choices about what you eat, and what you do (including exercising) every day, and how it helps or hinders you in your goal of becoming healthier, weight loss will happen as a by-product of your health improving.

You may also find it easier (and more fun) to keep your mind focused on the positive; what you can eat and what you can do to make yourself healthier, rather than on what you can’t eat so you can lose weight.

My next simple natural weight loss tip is: Never go to a party hungry.

If you are going to a party, and you want to insure you will not get too far off your diet, have a healthy snack before you go. You want to eat something which will ensure that your hunger does not overpower your desire to lose weight when you are exposed to all the temptations you may find at the party.

If you get to the party, and you are not hungry, it is much easier to choose which treats you would like to indulge in, and take a small taste of each. You will feel more like you were at a party, and not end up losing several weeks of weight loss by grabbing everything in sight and eating it all as if you were really starving.

Indulging in small portions of treats at a party is a good idea, otherwise you feel like you can’t eat (and you put yourself into a mindset similar to the survival mode, where your body lowers your metabolism, and conserves calories.) Allow yourself to choose the treats you would really like to taste, and you really know there is plenty of food available, so you only need to eat what you choose, (and there is no need to lower your metabolism.)

My next simple natural weight loss tip is: Choose wisely.

Every time you eat, you have the opportunity to make a choice: Eat something that brings me closer to my goals, or something that takes me away from my goal.

I am not just talking about weight loss here, what you eat has a much broader effect on your body (and life) than how much you weigh. What you eat affects how much energy you have, and therefore what you can accomplish every day. It affects your health in many different ways, if you make good choices, you are giving your body optimum nutrition; if you make poor choices, you may be malnourished at many different levels.

To eat well you don’t need to obsess over nutrition, or counting calories. Everybody knows fat and sugar laden processed foods are not good nutrition, and that you can’t overeat at every meal and not have to suffer consequences. And everyone knows that eating a variety of fresh vegetables and fruits every day gives you a rich source of essential nutrients.

It is easy to make the wrong choices about what you eat every day, too many “convenience foods” are full of fat, sugar, and artificial this and that (to fool you into thinking they taste good), and many people feel like they don’t have time to cook real food.

There are many cooking shows that show how you can cook real food without spending a lot of time in the kitchen. Two of my favorites are Jacques Pepin’s Fast Food My Way, and Sara Moulton’s Sara”s Weeknight Meals, both available on PBS. Both of these shows teach you how to prepare real food in less than 30 minutes, if you feel like you don’t have time, (or can’t cook) watch some episodes of these shows, and see how little it takes.

Take some time to cook real food, choose a variety of foods, and you may find that you have more energy, and more fun, too.
