Simple Natural Weight Loss Tip #10

My next simple natural weight loss tip is: Never skip meals.

While it might seem like a good way to lose weight, skipping meals actually makes it harder to lose weight. It makes your body go into survival mode, where it tries to conserve calories, and lowers your metabolism.

A better plan is to eat 4 small meals every day; your body never feels really hungry, and your metabolism keeps running normally. Make sure you are aware of the calories you eat at each meal, some authorities suggest trying to eat 400 calories or less at each meal.

(How many calories you should consume varies for each individual, and is based on your personal needs. Consult a doctor or nutritionist to find out how many calories you need daily to reach your weight goals safely.)

My weight loss tip for today: Never skip meals.

My next simple natural weight loss tip is: Don’t forget the alcohol.

No, I don’t mean have a drink with every meal. What I mean is don’t forget every alcoholic drink has calories in it. It can go from a low of around 60 calories to more than 200 calories per drink, and that doesn’t include mixed drinks, which are as high as 300 calories, or more.

Some experts claim because of the way the body processes alcohol, the calories from alcohol are used first by the body, making it harder for the body to burn fat, which slows down weight loss.

Many alcoholic drinks (wine and beer, for example) also have carbohydrates, which need to be included if you are trying to limit your carbs. (As well as any mixers, such as fruit juice or sodas.)

So today’s weight loss tip is: Don’t forget the alcohol.

My next simple natural weight loss tip is: Chew your food thoroughly.

I remember as a child being told to chew each mouthful of food 20-30 times, but never thought about it much. (And as a child, I rarely followed that advice, preferring to gulp food down as quickly as possible, so I could get back out to play. A habit many adults continue, only it’s back to work, instead of play.)

Part of the reason for the recommendation about chewing food thoroughly is to aid digestion. Breaking food down by chewing, and mixing it with saliva, is the beginning of digestion.

The reason it is one of my weight loss tips is that it forces you to eat more slowly, which allows your body to notice when it has eaten enough to be satisfied. When we eat too rapidly, we can eat faster than we can register that we are satisfied. (Some authorities say there is a 10-20 minute delay between eating something and feeling full.)

Your digestion and your waist line will both benefit from today’s weight loss tip: Chew your food thoroughly.
